DFS built two new control towers: one at Frankfurt Airport, where the construction of another runway necessitated a new location, and the other at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The Frankfurt tower went into operation in June 2011, the Berlin tower in March 2012 – eight years before BER finally opened.
