With more than 10,000 participants from 25 nations and more than 250 aircraft involved, Air Defender was the largest military air force deployment exercise in NATO's history. It took place in German and neighbouring airspace in the summer of 2023.
Defined sections of German airspace were temporarily reserved for military exercises and were unavailable for civil air traffic for a limited time.
