GBAS is a precision approach system based on satellite navigation. GPS on its own would be too inaccurate for aviation purposes. Therefore, the GBAS ground station sends additional information that corrects the signals from the navigation satellites. This provides the aircraft with its exact position. This technology on its own does not make flying quieter, but it can be used as a means to do so. For example, GBAS is used at Frankfurt Airport to enable steeper approaches.
