Pilots and air traffic controllers communicate with each other via radiotelephony. DFS operates almost 100 radio stations throughout Germany, which are being upgraded and modernised in an extensive programme. In the process, the radio stations will be switched to a new channel spacing. This will solve the frequency shortage problem by reducing the channel spacing. With a total volume of around €100 million, the project is one of the largest projects at DFS.
