Modern aircraft no longer rely on ground-based navigation systems. They can use satellite navigation. DFS is therefore optimising its airspace and navigation structure. By the end of the decade, flight procedures at more than 60 German airports are to be converted step by step. Area navigation procedures incorporating satellite navigation allow greater accuracy in approaches and departures and more flexible flight routes.
